ABOUT — INSPECTION RECORDS
PUBLIC RECORDS.
NO PDFS.
Health inspections, reproduced. We don't visit restaurants. We don't issue verdicts. We re-render what's already on file.
Every record on this site is sourced from public health-department open data.
WHY WE BUILT IT
Health inspection data is a public good. Your tax dollars fund the inspectors, the labs, the databases. But the data itself usually lives behind ugly portals, in 50-page PDFs, or buried in spreadsheets nobody can parse. This is the most basic civic project we could think of: take the data, surface it as a record a normal human can read in five seconds, link back to the source.

FOUR KINDS OF RECORDS
PASS / FAIL
CHICAGO SF
A pass / pass-with-conditions / fail result per inspection, plus violation lists tagged Critical / Serious / Minor (Chicago) or High Risk / Moderate / Low (SF).
NUMERIC SCORE
DALLAS
A 0–100 score per inspection (100 = clean, deductions per violation). Violations carry point values. The current Dallas snapshot ends in February 2024.
LETTER GRADE
NYC LOS ANGELES COUNTY
A letter (A / B / C) issued and posted on the placard. NYC also publishes formal closure and reopen actions; LA layers per-visit points on top of the grade.
TIERED VIOLATIONS
FLORIDA
A result (Inspection Completed / Warning Issued / Emergency Order / etc.) plus tiered violations: High Priority, Intermediate, Basic. Emergency-order closures appear on the page when unresolved.

WHAT WE'RE NOT
A FEW THINGS THIS SITE ISN'T
We're not Yelp. We don't review food. We don't issue verdicts of our own — the result on the page is the result the health department published. EatOrBeat reports records and does not rate restaurants. We're not a substitute for your own judgment, and we're not a substitute for the source data. Every page links to the official record or to the source dataset.
